Tuesday, 24th March 2026

A new book Hadrian's Wall: New Insights on Frontier Culture, edited by our members Rob Collins and Matthew Symonds focuses on Hadrian's Wall and its communities; the use of stone, from source to structure; evidence for conflict and violence; religion and belief, in life and death; aspects of material culture; and the Wall as a cultural phenomenon.

Other contributors (most of them SANT members) include Nick Hodgson, Fraser Hunter, Jim Crow, Andrew Birley, Eleri Cousins, Tony Wilmott, David Breeze, and Andrew Gardner. The book is published by the Society for Roman Studies in their Britannia Monograph series (no38), and costs £60.

You can read more about it in Salon (the Society of Antiquaries of London's regular newsletter), no 570, published 11 March 2026.
