The Society's seal and three photographs

Following the Anniversary Meeting in January 2019, the Society has a new President and Secretary.

Nick Hodgson

The President, who will serve for a three year term, is Nick Hodgson, who has been a member of this Society since 1986 and Secretary since 1996. He has worked for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums since 1986, spending much of that time in excavations at the Roman forts of South Shields and Wallsend, on which and on other Roman and Iron Age archaeological matters he has published extensively. He is currently acting as Manager of Collections & Research for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. He is author of the book Hadrian’s Wall: archaeology and history at the limit of Rome’s empire (published 2017).

Graeme Stobbs

His replacement as Secretary is long-standing member Graeme Stobbs, a native of Blaydon, on the banks of the River Tyne.Graeme is another archaeologist who worked on Roman remains for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums for many years. In 2012 he became Assistant Curator of Roman Collections for English Heritage, based up at Corbridge Roman Site but with a remit for the Hadrian’s Wall sites and collections in EH’s care. His post became redundant in 2018 after a restructuring. He is currently undertaking consulting work, and will be running Hadrian’s Wall tours between May and October (as well as the 2019 Pilgrimage!).
