Monday 28 June:  Dan Smith’s Wallsend. A walk round some of the sites associated with the childhood and youth of T Dan Smith. Leader: John Griffiths. Meet 7pm, Wallsend Metro.

Monday 19 July: Killingworth. Formerly a coal-mining area, Killingworth was developed as an unofficial new town by Northumberland County Council in the 1960s, its designer, Roy Gazzard, seeking to emulate medieval walled cities. Among other attractions it boasts some of the finest modernist buildings in the north of England, designed by Ryder & Yates for the gas industry.  Leader: John Griffiths. Meet 7pm, Dial Cottage, Great Lime Road.
