Sir The Copy of the Resolution of the Committee assembled at Hexham on the 2d day of March 1772 has been laid before the Committee for the County of York held here this day; and I am desired to return their Acknow- ledgments to the Gentlemen who signed that Resolution for their kind Intentions in favour of the Sufferers in this County; but this Committee having on the 9th of January last come to the Resolution; a Copy of which is subjoined, it is not now in their power to Depart from the plan then fixed upon, and consequently the Contrabutions made for this County must be Confined to the Sufferers in this County, and they are not intitled to Accept of any proportion of the Money Collected in other Counties. I am Sir Your most Obt huml Servt Geo Ewbank Treasurer York 9th March 1772 a Copy of the Resolutions of the Committee held at York the 9th of January 1772 for the Relief of the Sufferers by the late Inundations in the North (viz) at a Meeting of the Committee held this day, it having appar Appeard that the rest of the County wch have set on foot a Sub- scription for the Relief of the Sufferers by the late Inundations have Confined them to ? Own particular Countys, and an Advertisement signif? such intention has been produced from the Subscribers of ? ?unty of Durham these Resol- utions of so Confining their Subscriptions have putt the the Committee for the City and County of York under the Necessity of Contracting their general plan of releiveing all the Sufferers in the North, and of Confining their Benefactions to the unfortunate of their own County, which upon Consideration had of the above Circumstances is now resolved upon.
